Why is my High School Uniform Trending?

As I was looking through recent Vogue issues, I thought to myself: why am I seeing so many pieces that look practically identical to my catholic high school uniform? From pleated skirts, polos, and knee-high socks, it is clear that the academic style is gaining popularity in the fashion industry. The high-fashion brand Miu Miu played a big role in this becoming a current trend. I find this quite ironic, because when I had to wear the exact type of outfit every day to school, I felt resentment towards it. I remember feeling like I had to isolate such a significant part of my identity: my authentic style. After some research, I have come to understand that the cultural idea of being academic or educated is what is trending. As an avid reader since elementary school, I have recently noticed a growing number of people developing an interest in reading as well. It was not until I learned from an influencer that people believe reading is currently trending that I caught on to the appeal of the uniform look. Our choices in fashion and hobbies are cultural reflections of how we want to be perceived, and at the moment, the idea of appearing smart is what intrigues people. Although I will not be joining the uniform trend after spending so many days wearing one, it will be interesting to see how it continues to evolve.
