Is TikTok Ending Authentic Style?

Since TikTok began growing in popularity around 2019, it seems as if everyone my age has been styling themselves almost identically. The VSCO girl trend is what started this shift in fashion. It is as if the majority of Gen Z has created its own personal uniform based on whatever is trending at the moment. I will admit, I have played into many trends over the years. However, as I have gotten older and continue to develop my own authentic style, I have realized how damaging TikTok fashion trends are to my generation’s self-expression. I question how many of us even like these pieces, and whether we are just buying them to simply fit in. Developing a style that is unique to who you are can feel uncomfortable when everyone around you dresses the same.
