Probably the most iconic fashion transformation in film culture is the character Andy Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway. Growing up, I always felt inspired by Andy, who used fashion as a way to grow in confidence. There is something so special about watching her character transform, not only through the storyline, but through the clothes she chooses to wear. The wardrobe in this film is quite intentional, and it is so fascinating to pay attention to how it evolves alongside Andy's identity. Every outfit worn is used to communicate who her character is and who she wants to become.

At the beginning of her storyline, she is introduced as a shy and awkward young girl. Her wardrobe was more practical, simple, and frumpy. It was made clear she was unsure of who she was or who she wanted to be. When she began working for a runway magazine alongside people who have a true passion for fashion, it was pretty ironic, as she had no sense of style.

Over time, Andy started growing into her confident self by experimenting with fashion and finding her own sense of style. Of course, with the help of some Chanel and Prada, Andy transformed not only aesthetically but identity-wise. She started moving with a powerful energy that everyone around her could feel. From feeling out of place to making the office her own runway, fashion truly helped Andy evolve into the person she was becoming. The most special part about this film is how it communicates that the power of fashion should not be underestimated. Andy truly evolves by styling herself with self-expression.
