From florals, lace, and ruffles, LoveShackFancy has become one of the most sensationalized brands in the fashion industry of this decade, and the creator, Rebecca Hessel Cohen, a fashion editor, achieved this by doing exactly what everyone told her not to do. Modernized fashion has become so simplistic, and Cohen took a leap of faith by creating a brand that stands in contrast to what is popular. It all started when Cohen designed her own bridesmaids' dresses because she realized that designers lacked the creativity and femininity she had hoped to find. She began designing and selling bridal dresses as a small brand, reviving the vintage, nostalgic vibe in fashion design. Soon after, she opened her very first store in Sag Harbor despite the clear, contrasting trends circulating through the fashion industry and the critics who told Cohen that LoveShackFancy would never succeed. Not only has she curated a widely successful fashion brand, but she has also created a sense of lifestyle, with tea parties, dreamy patterns, and a unique store experience. The fact that her brand grew in such success shows that challenging the trends and social norms is what leads to great change in the fashion industry.
