My whole life, my mom and I have bonded through fashion. I see it as a form of communication for us. Putting together an outfit for her is how I show my love for her. We have both evolved as I have grown up, and the part of us that has changed with us is our styles. I have such a strong love for fashion, because it is something we will always have to bond over. As a child, I would always wear matching outfits with her, and I remember distinctly the colorful Lilly Pulitzer dresses she always picked out. However, now I would rather not wear those types of outfits simply because I have evolved and found myself through fashion. The best part is, no matter how much my mom's as well as my own identity and style change throughout life, we will always be able to connect through fashion. I am not saying we see eye to eye on everything in fashion, we actually have pretty contrasting styles at this point. I approach my mom's take on fashion by looking through a perspective of what feels most like her. Even if I feel like a piece is not what I personally deem as stylish or cool, I make sure to realize she has her own identity and sense of style, just like I do. I think it is important to see the beauty in everyone's style, even if it is not aesthetically pleasing to you, because it reflects their identity.
