How Emma Chamberlain Helped Me Discover My Style in 2019

From scrunchies, checkered Vans, and Birkenstocks, many of us were hooked on the VSCO girl aesthetic in 2019. Everyone my age was practically dressing in conformity, and what seemed like a random trend actually sparked my own and many others' love for fashion. The cause? Eighteen-year-old Emma Chamberlin is an authentic, yet relatable, YouTube personality. Emma and her style have always been effortlessly cool. She helped my 12-year-old self figure out how to meaningfully express myself through the clothing I wear. Through watching her vlogs, I learned how to thrift to build a style unique to who I am and who I want to become. Watching Emma helped me understand the power fashion holds in personal identity. If I had not gone on this journey of finding my authentic style, I would not be who I am today. Although my style has gone through some drastic changes since 2019, Emma and her channel are what inspired me to create Styling Self-Expression. I wanted to be able to guide others towards gaining more confidence with the use of fashion.
